Everyday Altarpiece Project
Everyday Altarpiece Project was sponsored by a UCIRA grant from the University of California and took place in the summer of 2015 while I was in artist in residence at the MeetFactory in Prague, Czech Republic. A room environment was created using only found materials and objects collected around the property and on the numerous walks throughout Prague and the surrounding countryside. The humble nature of the materials was used specifically to represent symbols that by their nature require only noble or expensive materials inverting their practical use to instill awe and reverence. Yet at the same time, a quiet reverence not just for the objects or materials, but for the meaning is left over, leaving room for contemplation of the relationship we have to cultural symbolism. On some walks small environmental 'disruptions' were created in the form of memorials.
